Trail Description

Colyear Springs Road is a nicely grated road than any vehicle can drive in dry conditions. A 4x4 is recomended in the wet months due to mud.

Where I've marked the end of the trail is where all the fun is. There are several hill climbs. The area was originally a motorcycle area where we have widened many of the trails for 4x4s to play on. You can make this as hard as you like. We were able to find an untracked ravine to drop down into. It was a narrow trail where you had your tires on the sides of the ravine and it was very easy to put a tire in the air when you traverse a turn. If you were to slip down into the ravine on one side, you'll be dealing with very high side angles. I can't really say where this was because it's hard to find. I'd recomend having at least one locker and a buddy that is equally as capapble because it would be very difficult to recover a vehicle that gets stuck in some of these places.

A little ways down the left fork at the end is the North Fork of Elder Creek which may have some serious slick rock opportunities when the water levels are low. I say "may be some" because we haven't been able to hit that creek bed yet. I'll let you know when we are able to get in there but it looks very promising.

Like I've said, this trail can be as easy or as hard as you make it. You can come up here for some beautiful scenery or some tough trails. Please be respectful of the land and be safe!

Nearby town: Red Bluff, CA

Nearby camping: There are no designated camping areas nearby.

Season: All year. During winter you may encounter snow. The trail continues past where I have marked the trails finish but it is gated Nov through April. We have not gone past the gates.

Directions: Take I5 to Red Bluff. Exit Main Street on the south side of town. Turn north on Main Street into town. Turn left on Luther street. Drive to the end at Paskenta Road and turn left. Turn right on Live Oak. Turn left on Red Bank Road. You will reach a fork on the road. To the Right is the town of Red Bank and left Lowry Road. Take the left fork to Lowry Rd. Colyear Springs Rd is the next right fork and is a dirt road.
