Trail Description
This was my first time at this OHV area located just west of a small town called Stonyford. My expectations were high due to the maps I found and word of mouth. We found the Potato Hill trail easily as it starts right off the main road Letts Valley Rd just past Davis Flats. The trail is a narrow one that consists mostly of level 3 terrain. There are many large humps and a few rocks. I found myself spending much of the time avoiding all the brush which seemed futile by the end of the day as many of the trail here are very narrow.
My overall opinion is varied. While finding this trail was a cinch we got lost a few times elsewhere due to inconsistencies at the physical trail marker with the maps provided at the Ranger Station. I probably would go back someday, having a better idea of where I was going. Do understand that 75 percent of the trails in the area are for motorcycle/quad only simply because they are less than 50 inches wide.
Directions
From the north, exit I-5 at Willows and take Hwy 162 Through Elk Creek and then left to Stonyford. You take Fout Springs Rd approximately 7 miles and you’ll see the trail labeled 34 on the left. From the south, exit I-5 at Maxwell and take Maxwell Rd approximately 30 miles to reach Stonyford and then proceed as above from Stonyford.
