Trail Description
This is a easy dirt road that snakes through the southern Cascades near Mineral, CA. This is dense pine territory with many great views as you climb up the mountainside. There is a primitive campground at Dry Lake which is somewhat quiet. This area is popular for Christmas tree cutting and in the winter, the snow makes this a real challenge. The road goes all the way through to Viola on Hwy 44 in Redding.
Directions
From Red Bluff which is the last place to refuel, take Hwy 36 east. Just before you reach Mineral you'll cross the South Fork of Battle Creek. Immediately afterwards, you'll see the dirt road on the left.
You can also catch FS17 in Viola via Hwy 44. Get fuel in Redding, CA before taking Hwy 44 east towards Viola.
