Cruise Control System Removed
System Removal
- Unplug and remove the yellow cruise controller box under the dash and steering column. The rest of the procedure basically tells how to unconnected everything connected to this harness. Refer to the number on the picture for each step.
- Unplug the electrical brake switch under the dash on the brake lever
- Unplug the ignition power connector from the Fuse panel.
- Unplug the cruise control operation switch connector under the dash. You can leave the rest of the switch harness in the steering column and turn signal rod.
- Unplug the Speed sensor connector under the dash.
- Unplug the vacuum brake release line that attaches to the switch at the top of the brake lever under the dash. CAUTION: For auto transmission vehicles make sure that this switch remains in position because the electrical connector also attached to the same switch controls the torque converter brake release and lock up.
- From the engine compartment unplug the cruise control actuator which is located on the upper passenger side firewall.
- Unplug the single ground wire connector bundled with the actuator vacuum line and wiring. Put electrical tape over the connector to seal it up.
- Unplug both vacuum lines from the cruise control actuator. Cap the small vacuum line which connects to the vacuum reservoir. This is the vacuum supply and not capping it will cause a leak.
- Disconnect the cruise control actuator throttle cable from the throttle linkage. This can be done by pulling the cable retainer clip opposite the actuator cable.
- Unbolt the cruise control actuator and remove from vehicle.
- To remove the complete vacuum/electrical harness push the grommet from the engine compartment to inside the vehicle. A flat head screw driver helps to squeeze it through.
- Now you should be able to remove the complete harness and your done!!
- Get a 1 inch rubber plug to fill the hole in the firewall.
