Idaho
27 February 2012 - 10:31 AM
Well, it is almost official. I am going to be moving up to Idaho. I accepted an offer for a transfer up there last Tuesday. I have not finalized the date, but would like to know if we have any TH'ers up there. I probably won't be bringing the Cruiser up until I get a place to park it. -
1969 Diesel Fj40 Build
02 February 2012 - 07:44 PM
Well, this thread is probably going to go slow, but I figure I might as well post up. Last weekend, rwilley and I started the diesel FJ40 build.
The Plan:
3.0 LT Mercedes OM617 I5 Turbo Diesel
Advance Adapters Ranger Overdrive
Toyota 4-Speed Transmission
19-Spline Toyota Split Transfer Case
Toyota Axles - Four Wheel Disc Brakes
Power Steering
Last weekend we were able to get some motor mounts fabricated, and the transmission/transfer case together. We also started on removing the old motor mounts. Hopefully we will be able to get the motor positioned this weekend and the new mounts welded on the frame.
Enough said...Here are some pictures...

Om617 To Toyota 5-Speed
11 October 2011 - 01:31 PM
I have sent out a few emails today, but thought I would open this discussion up to everyone, since I think there might be more insight here:
http://www.4x4labs.c...sions/om617w56/
Is the Toyota 5-Speed and Transfer Case strong enough to move around a Land Cruiser? I have a Mercedes Turbo Diesel sitting in the shop, and actually have FJ40 Rob's Ranger Overdrive Unit I was planning on running in this combination, however, this new development might change some plans.
This is what I was thinking. First off, Toyota Pickup gearing options are just short of unlimited. It is fairly inexpensive (compared to other gearing options) to get lower gearing from a Toyota Pickup. You can double and triple transfer case for pretty cheap, compared to crawl boxes, lower gears, ect...This also opens my possibilities on running a Dana 60 in the rear, as the diff is centered.
My only question is whether this combination is strong enough for a Land Cruiser.... -
