Om617 To Toyota 5-Speed

I have sent out a few emails today, but thought I would open this discussion up to everyone, since I think there might be more insight here:

Is the Toyota 5-Speed and Transfer Case strong enough to move around a Land Cruiser? I have a Mercedes Turbo Diesel sitting in the shop, and actually have FJ40 Rob's Ranger Overdrive Unit I was planning on running in this combination, however, this new development might change some plans.
This is what I was thinking. First off, Toyota Pickup gearing options are just short of unlimited. It is fairly inexpensive (compared to other gearing options) to get lower gearing from a Toyota Pickup. You can double and triple transfer case for pretty cheap, compared to crawl boxes, lower gears, ect...This also opens my possibilities on running a Dana 60 in the rear, as the diff is centered.
My only question is whether this combination is strong enough for a Land Cruiser....

You need to find out if it will hold up behind the diesel motor.

Your on the right track I think the W56 5-speed is just fine for the LC
that tranny is used in the 4cyl and v6 models I don't see a problem
And your right It's cheeper to use PU parts then LC parts
I have a w56 5-speed Dual/case's 2.8 and 4.7 that give's me 206 to 1 final drive.

Apparently Luke at 4x4 Labs believes it will. This is the only Toyota Transmission to which this conversation is available.
I also do not believe the Mercedes transmissions were built any better....

what are the specs on the motors?trq?
Wikipedia says:
Power output was 125 hp (91 kW). Torque was rated at 180 lb·ft (244 N·m)
I believe this is at 2400 rpm or so...
After reviewing this guys threat at Pirate, I am convinced that I need to be running an over drive, however, I am stuck on how I can obtain lower gearing. I almost need to just bite the bullet and get a NV4500 with the 4:1 low gears in the FJ60 split case I have....

I need to log this brainstorm here:
If I run:
1992-1994 RPO MT8 GM-NV4500 6.34:1
NP203 coupled to: 2:1
Jeep Dana 300 4:1 Gearing
Dana 60 Rear 4:10
Total Crawl Ratio 208:1
I know guys, the Dana 300 is a Jeep part, however, my roommate has one in his '69 Bronco and it seem pretty strong.
I think this set-up with be much stronger than the Toyota Pickup stuff...now I just need to start collecting these parts....
