I am thinking about having an engine swapping party in about a month for my land cruiser. I am swapping my 350 for one I am having rebuilt from the '88 Chevy Pickup. I pulled the engine out of the truck today and took it in to get rebuilt, and I should have all the parts in a month for the swap. I thought it would be cool to have a party and get some conversation going on here (as things have been getting kind of dull).

My engine has never ran right since it was put in there. The engine came with my land cruiser, and we put it in there. I was having overheating issues, which I am thinking is because one of the heads needs rebuilt. I also have this issue where I leak oil REALLY bad, and can't find where it is coming from to stop it. I also have that Holley ProJection, which is an alright system, just does not work well for 4x4's that change environments to much, there is not enough adjustment and the fuel maps are not as ellaborate as the Chevy. So I am putting a 5.7 from an '88 Chevy Truck with the Chevy TBI system. I am having the engine rebuilt, and am going to get a chip to eliminate all the emissions garbage on the engine.

A little bit of an update. I got word back from the place that was going to rebuild my engine....Apparently it had a blown head gasket and had been rebuilt once before. The heads had been resurface down to just about nothing, and he was going to have to bore it out to .060 due to rust in the cylinder wall from sitting for a long time. I made the decision to order a crate engine, so I will have to do that before the party....I do have a few questions for some 350 experts:

Do the bolt holes from the prevortec match the vortec ones? I am thinking about getting a prevortec engine, as I believe I can use my intake with an adapter (that I probably have, but can get). I just want to be able to use the serpentine belt system from the vortec engine, but don't know if the holes will match up....

This will be at Cabinet Specialties, 1300 Schwab Street, Red Bluff....the time is TBA, I need to see how parts collecting goes, as I need to get a PROM chip for the computer, to eliminate the emissions equipment, and I am going to get a new wiring harness for that system.

Sorry, the holes in the block and heads to mount the serpentine belt plate. I have the 1988 with the big, one piece steel mount....

And what engine are you planning to buy? As far as I know that belt system should bolt to about any mid-80s to late 90s 350. If you are planning on getting a vortec you WILL need a different intake manifold. Im not sure if they make a tbi-vortec intake for the 350. I know there is not one for the 4.3. You might also want to mention what engine you will be using to the place that is programming your prom chip.

Ok it looks like there is an intake but, YIKES thats pricey!

You would probably be best off getting a stock crate engine for that truck!

i believe the angle of the bolt holes are different on the intake, but have read were people have just hollowed them out to get the proper angle, you will aso have to think about the anti knocking device that is in the side of the block if you are going with the tbi.who knows it might be in a goodwrench block if you are going that route
