Does anyone know if you need a special tool to remove the fuel filter from a 1990 Ford Aerostar Van. ? I told Pattis mom I would look at hers. But looking online I found a page with tools for removing them.

No clue, but I know they love making things harder than they need to be. Like recently I went to help my dad find the dipstick to check his Explorer's auto trans fluid level. Well, they have a 'closed' system. They think they we are too stupid to check our fluid so they force you to trust the vehicle to keep track of it for you.

My 96 Exp. has a tranny dipstick fire wall passenger side. Seems weird it would'nt have one.
If it works don't fix it...If it breaks upgrade it!

My Dad's is the latest generation explorer. I looked it up, there is no dipstick. You have to check the levels like a manual transmission.

Yep, we did one not to long ago and it took reading the alldata a couple of times to actually beleive it! The reasoning behind it is to keep people from overfilling the tranny because that is what causes seals to fail most of the time...the filling procedure calls for overfilling it, starting it up and getting it warm then pulling the check plug and letting the fluid run out until it is level with the hole!
As for the aerostar fuel filter, I do beleive all it has is the white plastic clips that you just pry out (they usually break) to remove them and the new filter SHOULD come with new ones...no special tool required!
