I haven't been able to work on it in a while, but it's coming along, and I need a couple of tips, but first I'll give a description of it. It is an 85 Toyota 4runner with a salvage title, 35" Radial TSL Super Swampers, all stock 22RE engine, 3" body lift, custom bumpers with a Warn Winch and a custom bbq pit adapter for the rear bumper. It also has a custom roll cage and roof rack with construction light and hi-lift jack mount.

We are planning on putting a custom gas can holder on the rear bumper and just bought a 3 1/2" lift kit from North West Off Road, and are going to put a 327 or 350 Chevy V8 in it and a kit from Advance Adapters.

Now for the tips, we also have an 89 4runner, fully stock, that we want to switch bodies with, but don't really have the time, and I understand that in 1986 or 1987 they changed some of the electrical stuff and interior add-on options, is there anything that would make this eisier without taking it into a shop and do it ourselves, and what are your recomendations on how to do this? All help will be appreciated. This picture is of it with 29 inch tires on 15 inch rims that the tires fell apart on July 4th 2007, what a day to want to go to the salt lake near Tahoka, and the rims are now on a set of 33" tires in the garage

first off, nice project. i have a 1980 yota pickup. i was gonna put a 305 in it but, its too big to fit under the hood without notching the piss out of it. so i went with the v6 4.3L chevy and it fits nice with a little room to work on it. it has plenty of power. i have 38 inch tires and it will spin em on dry asphault. no need for a v8 in that light of a truck, youll break axles and stuff thats too much power. the v6 is nice. and go with a chevy tranny and the 205 transfer case and youll have a nice set up.

Why do you want to swap bodies? What is wrong with the one current body?

The entire engine compartment is smashed and it will bend all fenders put on the drivers side, and there are other miscellaneous things wrong with it. other than that, it runs and drives great

The reason i will put a v8 in it is because we already have it and money is a little tight right now, so why not use what i got, and i know the damage it can cause, and we have it set up for a v8 so that it will fit no matter what as long as its a 383 or under.

Just asking, but does anyone consider this a "truck" or something else, cause one of my buds says that it is a "VAN" Now, i know its not a VAN, but I want your opinion

This vehicle is kind of a grey area. Trucks have a bed, which if you take the back seat out it turns into a bed. It's like a truck with a factory equipped shell. But the bottom line is it's an early SUV. It bugs the heck out of me when someone calls their SUV a truck. You're right, it's not a van, it's a 4 wheel drive wagon.

Now vehicles like the Explorer Sport Trac, Avalanche and anything else that has a tiny bed, NOT a truck :) But those are simply my opinion. Even my 97 3/4ton Suburban that has the frame as the pickup, is NOT a truck. Ok I'll get off my soap box now.
I drive an 87' XJ.

Rumor had it when Toyota first started importing the 4-runner it was classified a station wagon which was cheaper export fees than a truck.

I was also wondering, is it possible to get an engine that was sitting outside for 1 year running without rebuilding it because I already cleaned it and it seems fine it just needs to get put back together. It was the block, head, and valve cover only. They have been thoroughly cleaned and put partially back together. I was wanting to just put it back together and use a fuel additive to get the junk out. What are your recommendations because money is a little tight and I don't want to pay for a rebuilt engine and head? It is for the white one in the top picture, not the tan one!!!

Okay, the reason I call it a truck is that it is eisier to say. TRUCK- 2 syllables. SUV- 3 syllables. See what I mean? and if you took off the top and enclosed the cab, it would be like a truck, except with plastic and carpet on the bed.
