Sounds like you need to adjust your tie rod. First check the limiters on the axle to make sure they are not hitting too early.

The chevy steering box is usually a little shy of 4 turns from all the way left to all the way right. If you jack the front of your cruiser up in the front and count the turns from one side to the other, If you put it half way between then your wheels should be straight. If not your drag link may need adjusted. Its easier than it sounds.

I've had nightmares about that happening.

When you attached the pitman arm did you have the box centered? I'll bet not... you can check the pitman by making sure your steering wheel is at center, turns twice right, back to center, twice left (or whatever half your box turn to turn is) with the front end off the ground, then with your steering wheel at center make sure your pitman arm is pointing straight back. If it's not pointing straight back you'll have to pull it and reset it. After that's done you need to adjust the drag link so that your tires are dead straight ahead. I think I put a straight edge along first one tire going back and measured the distance to the rear tire, then checked the other side the same then turned the wheel till the straight edge was the same distance away from the rear tires on each side (if your front end is 2"s wider than the rear end you should get a distance of 1" on each side from the straight edge to the rear tires). I did this the first time I set it up, since then I've adjusted it by sight and it's good enough.
