1999 Ford Ranger 2.5l Rate Topic: -----

hey guys got a new one for you. I got a co woker that has a 1999 for ranger 2wd that makes a really loud noise on the high way in 4th gear and it gets really bad in 5th gear.

gears in rear diff ?or trany problems

he took it to 3 different places. the ford dealership said that his rear end had to be rebuilt. another place just replaced the bearings and said nothing else was wrong and another place said nothing was wrong with it. i really could not tell anything was wrong till it got up to about 50 MPH. it sounds like its comeing from the tranny, its only when he push's the gas peadal, and you can hear the noise of you listen for it all the time just really soft.

When rwilley and I had put the rear air locker in his cruiser, the gears didn't get set right. There was a vibration and rattle in the gears at about 50 mph, but it was when you let the gas pedal off. You might also check the drive line U-Joints. That would be the first thing I would check.
