Well...I don't have kids (wish I did, but thats another story) and since I no longer have a wife :whistling: , I found allot more time to do this kind of stuff.

And if my lawyer can convince hers that alimony doesn't translate to "all the money" , things will go even faster.

I finally got around to fixing my brake line issues. Since I put on the disc brake conversion, the brake lines as they connect to the calipers were to close to the frame and at full compression would hit. At one point I hit a large dip to fast and broke one completely off.

By the way...on a VW, any broken line means no brakes AT ALL.

So...I remembered the mounting bolts for the caliper brackets are in a square pattern so all I had to do was pull everything apart and reposition the brackets to move the calipers from the top to the front.

Before...Note the severely bent brake line from hitting the frame tube...

It will be nice to not have to worry about this any more. Now I can really go crazy.

Just when I thought I was Almost "done" working on the Beest....

That guy that lives in the engine...I think his name is Rod :whistling: ...is not happy in there any more and wants out. I got 2 blocks from the house yesterday and he (Rod) started banging like crazy insisting on seeing the light of day. Luckily he did not get his wish so the heart of the Beest is injured, but still intact.

So now I have to decide... do I spend money for a transplant and maybe salvage the rest of the summer wheelin, or spend less and take the time to perform major surgery.

So...as you guys are out and about in salvage yards or anywhere...keep an eye out for a possible donor. Just about any old bug engine will do to get by while I have mine on the stand in pieces. :(

 Engine problems.

At this point, why not look into an AWD powertrain and make that thing 4wd?

I know, who am I to talk, my rig doesn't even move right now. It just seems like you're stuck between full blown dune buggy and/or full time wheeler. You've been puting a lot of money and time into making it more of a wheeler. Why not take it one more step?

I think the Beeest would cross over to a sick crawler. My .02 worth.

If its a "turnkey" I could have 400 cash next payday on the 16Th. Could you see what he says? Or give him my # 530-945-2048.

Thanks

That would be perfect to use while I build a monster out of mine.

Get it...a monster....for the Beest. :whistling: I crack myself up.

The way the VW frame is, to turn this into a 4X4 would cost more than building a rig from scratch. When I get this where I want it I would like to find an old Samurai and build that up. :whistling:

Good news...I found a stock engine on CL and went and picked it up last night.

This is what $400.00 gets in VW bucks...

Posted Image

It doesn't look like much, but I heard it run and it sounds real good.

Everything on the top of my engine (carb, dist, fuel pump, etc) is new so the next step is to strip this down to a long block and transfer my newer stuff over.

If all goes well, I may have the Beest back on the road by the weekend!!

As usual, I will post my progress with pics.

I had some issues with the flywheel. The "new" engine was in an older 6 volt bug and the flywheel and clutch is different so I had to have that changed at a shop.

As of now...the engine is back together and mounted up!! Before I start it though I need to adjust the valves and do some other tune up stuff. Also I have new batery cables and a new fuse box to put in.

Hopefully, the Beest will roar to life again tonight!
