This is no big deal but I just need to vent. :'(

Some of you may have read in other posts that after doing some speed bump wheelies, I noticed I had some worn out inner tie rod ends.

Well I ordered new ones and they got here just in time for last Saturday's Chappie Run. BUT, the left side was the wrong one. So naturally I assumed the wrong part was shipped. Upon further investigation, I realized the left side tie rod was backwards, the inner was on the outside and so on. So i got the part I ordered but not the part I needed.

I now am going to get the outside ends so I all four are new.

Lesson leared...being $10.00 each, I should have ordered all four to begin with.

Hopefully, I will have them on and be ready for the Memorial Run this weekend. :headbanger:

So are those hard to come by or do they not carry them in regular parts stores?? Why do they have to be ordered?

Mostly because its an old (1967) front end and the mainstream stores like to carry things that sell!!

There are 2 VW only places in Redding but they didn't have them in stock and the price was about $4 cheaper per by ordering online. Good ol JC Whitney!!

Yes...I am cheep enough to save $8 in parts to spend $5 for shipping!! Oh...and no tax!!

I will however, call tomorrow to see if the locals have the outer ends. I will spend the extra if need be to be ready for the weekend.

You may know of this place, but IMO they are excellent to work with; Rock Auto

They have IH parts so they must have VW parts!

I used to be heavily in the VW bus scene, but when I got the Jeep...out the door it went. Anyway, with the diesel Jetta I have, I've gotten a couple new vendors. The best I've dealt with is http://www.autohausaz.com/.

Good luck!

Thanks. I will keep that link too.

I got the ends yesterday from the locals, now I just need to put it back together, and hopefully get the toe close to what it should be. I cant see taking it for an alignment for just the toe (just me being cheep again). I will need to check some VW sites and see how much toe it should have. Since I drive this on the street, I need to get it right.

I run mine ('67 front 6" wider) appx 1/4" toe in. The back is toed all the way in on the spring plates. Lots of good info in the book Baja Bugs and Buggies by Jeff Hibbard.

I cant believe something as simple as tie rod ends can cause so much trouble!!! :'(

Still not done........

I got the outers from Wolfgang's here in Redding (great guys, very helpful) and was ready to go when I realized I had two left outers and no inner. :censored: !!!! Turns out, the inner I ordered first WAS the wrong part!! It was the right number for an inner, in the right box for an inner, but still an outer!! So, I got the right side together, and put the outer from the first order on so I can exchange the outer from Wolfgang's for in inner on my way home and be on the road tonight.

I hope!!
