Ok heres the scenario... My buddy got a ford ranger from his bro in law, it needed a new tranny so he ended up switching out the trannys. so now the problem is trying to get it started. We hooked everything up so its not the nuetral saftey switch. What is happening is when he cranks the engine over hes not getting any spark from the coil. we used a test light to see and it will stay a steady light when it turning over, shouldnt it be like a flickering light? So anyways his dad bought a new coil, rotor, cap for the distribuitor and control modul in the back of the distrubtor. Everything we did still wouldnt make it spark. So now my dad is saying that it could be the distributor. But before we start buying anything else for it, would anybody know what could be the problem? Thank you, Bulmer

Ok how bout I take a crack at it!! Maybe make sure no wires got pinched in the bell housing, and check the fusible links at the starter solenoid (on the wheel well),make sure you didnt make any of them stretchy (burned up), one of them is the power to the main relay for the ecm and some of the others power up other critical items...there are quite a few possibilitys of what could have happened...

There should be 2 sides to the coil, with the key on both should be hot, and when cranking one should kind of flicker and the other stay solid. If this doesn't happen then i would go after the pickup in the distributor.

eh not sure  but its got this little chip by the gas pedal that you can take out that prevents theft or what not. We thought it could have been that but when we took it out and tried to start it, it wouldnt even turn over so we just abandoned the idea
