i'm considering changing my rear axle shafts out to cromoly, or a stronger than stock application. or should a person leave them stock, so that if binding occurs, i would break there rather than a ring and pinion, which is more expensive. yes, one has broke now, but i pack a spare and took less than an half hour to change. my buddy was driving like a moron and stuffed the tire under a ledge, grabbed 2nd gear, reved her up and dumped the clutch. needles to say, i don't ever drive like that, but things can happen and things do break, and i hate breakdowns. curious if anybody out there runs the stronger axles and wants to share their experiences? keep in mind i run 39.5 boggers.

6 in one hand, 1/2 dozen in the other.
I would think the easiest part to change should be the weak link. I've heard others contend that if the whole thing is bullet-proof, nothing will break unless it's defective (yeah, right). It could also be argued that the least expensive part should be the weak link.
I think you are the only one to answer this. Which part would you rather change on the trail, if you had to change a part.

I would not change the shafts unless you start having a problem with them. They are easy and fast to change.
