Hi guys & gals,
This morning in the rain I joined about 15 other members of the local (Wellington, NZ) Cross Country Vehicle Club on a trip into the Akatarawa Forest near Wellington. In particular we were headed for the Orange Hut, a hut in the middle of the forest that a lot of 4wd groups, and motorbike groups, and hunters use as a base. They were holding a re-opening ceremony after it has been rebuilt due to vandals burning down the previous one. The local council were holding a big re-opening ceremony with a BBQ. One of the other clubs was running the official trip into the hut which attracted about 100 vehicles.
Due to the rain, and the fact that many of the other trip had road tires on their 4WD's (read: mall cruisers) we got held up by them, but still had some fun ourselves. The rain just kept going so the opening ceremony was pretty damp, I just sat in the jeep and waited for the backlog of about 150 vehicles to clear.
Here is a link to the few photos that I did get today. http://good-times.we...559692227RMdjOT
Enjoy

Yes, there were so many vehicles people had to park on the sides of the track and walk to the Orange Hut for the opening ceremony. With 100 - 150 vehicles all trying to park along one narrow track through the bush, it can be a problem. All part of the fun.
There were quite a few FJ40's about, several were 350 Chev powered. You would have felt right at home, apart from your steering wheel being on the wrong side

Seeing pic's like you have posted really makes me want to go there but I checked into shipping my rig there and it would be about $3,000.00 round trip just for my rig and I'm sure that the air fair would be close to the same for 2 people so $6,000.00 is just not in the budget any time soon
