EDIT---- decided to just use this thread for my "build" It's a budget beater, so in no way am I trying to pass this off as a high doller rig like most of you guys! :headbanger: maybe after the wedding! So the down low, It's a 1978 bronco ranger xlt, 400m, c6, 205, dana 44 front, 9" rear. bought it on 31s, for 600$. Havnt really spent any money on it except for smog junk from the junkyard, and some brake lines, etc that needed to be replaced. I will add updates and pics as I go along. thanks for looking! and Thanks to the trail hunters who have helped me out such as toyoder, motogizzi and rwilley.

So I'm in California, and I needed to take my bronco in to get smogged so i could get perm tags. It passed all the emmissions great, way below allowable (which suprised me alot!) but the egr wasn't functional, the vac lines were modified, spark controls disconected, and air injection missing because all CA truck need to have it, and all the numbers say it's a cali truck. He said I might be able to take it to a referee and have them write it off tho, especially since the emmissions were so low.

So my question is, after looking at the horrible excuse for vac diagrams found online, Is the "spark controls" vac lines the 2 found on top of the im in front of the carb very close to the rad hose? I thought the vac lines looked correct, but It was like that when i bought it.

Should I go to rock auto to get the egr? Any tips on installing it? I figure an egr and vac lines are easy, The air injection might suck if i have to swap that in....Would i need new manifolds off a ca 400? would it be possible to just buy smog legal headers like the ones found on jbg? I'm guesing the spot for it is on the pass side of the crank?

on the upside, the guy had told me it had a 351m in it when i bought it, but he had only had it for a week or so, got it on a trade and his wife made him sell it. The smog guy ran all the numbers and told me it was actually a 400. They look the same I guess, and me being a ford v8 n00b, how should i know it wasnt a 351? So that was a nice suprise...

Thanks for any help guys, i posted this over on the bronco forum too, Hopefully I can get her all finished up and i can focus 100% on the FUN stuff.

yup! took it out to the ref, he gave me a vac diagram to go off of that was "official" and i fixed it all up and he passed it. I did have to replace the egr valve, egr plate, a ton of gaskets and set timing. a big thanks goes out to Dale at the shasta college smog station! he was awesome.

when I can afford the gas! heh, seriously tho, I have had a ton of hospital calls lately with the holidays and people falling off ladders etc, so I havn't committed to any trail runs since I have been on call. I'm hoping to at least take it out to the ohv park to see how it does in the snow. Hopefully in the next week I can figure out a weekend to get off of work and maybe get a small group of the redding guys to go somewhere close. I just dont wanna commit and then have to back out due to being on call and having to work at the last minute.

1st- excuse the horrible front bumper/hoop/pipe thing. The more I look at it the dumber it looks. It was all from scrap metal I got for mega cheap, so It was more of a experiment with the bender than anything. I still have to grind off the front tabs etc if I decide to use it...not sure if I should scrap it or not...

new tires from Toyoder's dr pepper rig- Thanks Vince!

The more I look at em, the more I wanna wheel it. I was trying to wait until I got some gears, which will prob be a bit. I plan to trim up the fenders this weekend. I know they are a little big, but I couldn't pass up a deal, plus I think it will grow into em! :P

Looks much better :headbanger: Don't wait for gears. Wheel it the way it is and you'll get a better idea of what you need. I might have time Saturday to go get stuck in the snow (or mud) out at Chappie.

Yeah, I'm game. I bet if you post it up as an outing you might get a couple others to come along. I don't know how much snow there is but it could be fun.

Come to think of it, I haven't wheeled mine since I got the 35's. Come to think of that, Toyoder hooked me up with mine, too!

I have a couple things to do in the morning around 8 or 9. How do you guys feel about meeting at the staging area around 10-10:30? Any chance we can get Toyoder and Co. to go? BZ? Motogizzi?
