I don't know what you're driving, or if you have a solid front axle or not, but it sounds like the u-joint is cracked. Just a guess.

Well since he hasnt responded back I will tell you what he has...It is an 89 bronco II with auto hubs...I have heard that the hubs are a big problem and that there is a conversion to manual hubs...the last couple times we have been out it has a terrible popping noise when the front end is torqued...and when we went out last time when his rear driveline broke he had to drive home on the front and it was REALLY bad...I have dealt with these hubs before as far as replacing them when a customer asks but have never witnessed the actual failure so I dont know if it is the hubs or not(but I kind of think so)...so I am sure he would appreciate any info as to what else could be causing it! (I still think its the hubs  )

OK I'm with you. I didn't know what they were called. If you had said ball and socket lokking thingy, I'd have been all over it. LOL. I've seen those on Jeeps as well. The older Willys had those. I don't think that's what he has in a Ford though.

I kind of shyed away from the hubs cause he said he ddn't see anything wrong. I think if it were broken it would have all fallen apart in his hand when he took it off. 89's had the IFS right? Don't those use some kind of CV joint on the outer end? CV joints pop when turning and/or torque is applied when the are failing, like in fwd cars. I think it's time for a solid axle swap! :headbanger:

Hmmm...thats a thought...he may have cvs on the ends...I know the rear driveline was because that is what broke...Im not sure they call the twin I-beam an IFS but a hybrid perhaps...I need to get my hands on it for a while so I can tell him for sure!!

yea its a ford. it is twin i beams. the hub looked ok. tfpets has been out wheelin with me and know what the sound is like. it sounds like fire cracker went off in the front of my truck. :fireworks: i need to get this fixed so i can go on the high lakes run. i want to switch it over to a danna 35 and a 8.8 in the rear out of a explore. 90 to 94. i would like to find one that has a track lock in the rear. if any one knows of where some are or has one i might be able to buy it soon. i think some time soon im going to part out my 86 bronco ii and take the transfer case and maby the frount axel and throw it in the 89 bronco ii, if i cant get a hold of a danna 35.

im not saying that it is this easy but i have a 86 F150 with the twin i beams and i was having this problem as well and for me it turned out being the top right (in my case left) tie rod end, as they get old the rubber gets rotted out and it bleeds the grease our which makes it pop when it is turned. Just my two cents
If at first you do not succeed give it more gas
