hey guys, i'm about to pick up an 88 4runner with the 22re motor, but i have a question about it, whenever i go to start it like i'll crank it over for a few seconds, and it wont start, then i try again and it comes close, but usually on my third try it will finally start and run great, and once it has ran awhile like driving to the gas station or something and shut it off go in and it'll fire right up when i come back out just when its cold it has some troubles, he said during the winter u could spend a few minutes trying to start it, not sure though think it could maybe be a fuel pump acting up or something like that, any info would be appreciated.

Could be fuel pump, restriction, fuel pump relay. Those are the basics for that vehicle

Might be as simple as a fuel filter.

Hopefully Toyoder chimes in on this one.

yeah hopefully its a fuel filter that would be nice, it has like 207,000 miles on it so i'd say due for a filter and pump anyways but i dunno, just thought i'd ask before i got it, i'm getting it for $700 and its pretty clean, the guy just dumped like $2,000 dollars in it like 2,000 miles ago just doing some maintenence on it, but he did'nt have that fixed, i figure it was a pretty good deal

my vote is cold start injector.. could be the harness, clogged, or maybe the timing. i know my 22re was harder to start cold, after that it started no prob everytime. good luck man.
