i just put in an lc big bore throttle body, cam, rockers, and 30lbs flywheel, bolted her all back up and it is like it is missing. the timing is right. even put a light on it to make sure. but is rough idling, no excelleration, just a bad miss. does even have a bit of a knock but not really that loud(faint). i havn't checked plug wires, but they were fine before the rebuild. could my valves be set too tight? vacuum lines cannot cause it can they? she's a 86 efi 22re please help.

If you have a vacuum leak that can cause a miss

I would see if you can narrow it down to one cylinder or does it move around

tps?
yes the intake ducts are all tight. i won't deny that i may have a vacuum line on wrong.possibly to the egr. i think its #4 maybe #3 where the miss and faint knock is coming from. it got too late last night so i'm going to run it tonight, break in the cam, then check plug/wires, then do a compression test. try to eliminate all mechanical aspects. then turn to those garsh darn vacuum lines. after that, if it's still not right, i believe my uncle still has a couple sticks of dynamite. might as well have some fun. :headbanger:

o.k. ya it's on the side of the throttle body. didn't adjust it. just moved it from one tb to the new tb. that would cause a low idle, not really a miss?wouldn't it?

With an EFI system, doesn't the computer have to be re-calibrated to accept the changes? I think it needs to plugged in to a laptop.

new deveolpments. timing is right. spark plugs good. wires/cap/rotor/coil good.
when i run the truck breifly, turn it off, put hand on the header, #1 and #3 are cold, #2 and #4 hot. pulling the wires off the plugs while engine is running, no change in idle. so #1 and #3 not firing. listened to injectors with a stethoscope, i could hear #4 clicking open and shut, not a sound from #1 or #3. tested and got 2.8 ohms of resistence on injectors and harness? could i have wire wheeled the end of the injector or damage them with compressed air? could it still be a timing thing. i'm freakin frustrated.
as much as i don't want to, it's looking like a job for mech shop. ahg.

you dont have the valves to tight on 1 and 3 do you ?
do you have the fuel injector wiring harnness all grounded ?
are you getting any backfiring ?

Are you sure that #1 and #3 plug wire are in the right place's in the dist cap ? If they are do a copmression check on 1 and 3 to make sure you have compression that will let you know if your valve's are too tight or not

well i got it running on all fours, myself and four good buddies worked till 12:30 am friday night finishing the buggy, up and on the road at 6:00 am saturday morning to head up to a trail run comp 2.5 hours away. she ran great and was following a tube chassis buggy with ease, till i got heavy on the skinny pedal, landed hard and broke the ring and pinion gear in the front end. the longs held, the drive flanges held, but not the gears. oh well, what i great time i had. and some much needed experience behind the wheel of all my upgrades. i'll try some pics out here.
