Today I went on a run with a few guys from Offroad Express (a Kiwi forum I’m on) to Extreme 4wd Park. Before I go any further I have to say, WHAT A GREAT DAY!
We set out in 2 at about 9am after having a bit of a muck around, paying park fees etc. first obstacle we came across was a small climb followed y a drop and a hard right into a little bit of mud. (Normally a large hole that would swallow a normal truck) we then went on to a hill climb that I thought I would have a crack at. It was a rather tricky looking climb that required you to get around a tree that was partially blocking your run up. With out difflocks I only managed to get about 5-7 meters up the slope (if I could get a run up everyone things I could have made it up, the hardest part was the first bit) A small recover effort was required to get the ass end of my truck around the tree.
Next we played around on some side slopes and climbs until I was told about a large hole that would require a winch to get out. So we plodded over and gave it a crack. This is where my problem began. Half way through the winch out, the winch clutch popped out causing immediate and excessive force on my clutch (was driving and winching) which resulted in a busted clutch (some other factors that are hard to explain if you weren’t there). Anyway that was my 4wding over for the day, but I chose to stay and watch a few of the other guys. One of the winch trucks got stuck down a creek almost lying on his side with a flooded engine; this was a very long recovery.
In short, if you had a Nissan Badge you were in for some trouble. In fact I think every Nissan had a problem of some sort (broken hubs, engine probs, blown clutch, broken shear pins)
here are some pics.
