You do know that a few years ago a rear bumper was an option on trucks when they were purchased new so I dont know if or when they changed the law about a rear bumper. The only time I was ever hasseled about a bumper was a front on my PU and it was a rookie park ranger trying to make a name for himself and he did because I called him an a##hole every time I saw him after that. I have a freind that is a deputy sheriff here in tehama county and I will ask him about it.

I didn't even know they had a law for that. I have both rear bumpers off my yotas and I have never gotten a ticket. Although this weekend they are both going back on the trucks.

That's funny. I remember my Dad's late 80s Ranger didn't come with a bumper. It was an option he couldn't afford. Did they write a penal code on the ticket? I'm just curious if there really is a law specifically mentioning rear bumpers. I would only think it would be a problem if the license plate wasn't properly mounted or lit.

I drove around for years with my ol' VW bus without a bumper. Then on my first trip through Weaverville the local yokel dropped a fix-it ticket on me for one, plus an additional for no front license plate. I was bummed, but checked into it.

It's in the rules, just rarely enforced...just like the requirement to use turn signals. Or speed limits. I think it just depends on the mood of the officer, and - dare I say - how you "profile".
