I wonder what our weight distribution is front to back. 1/2 ton pickup springs for the front seem about right, I wonder how 1/2 ton springs for the back would do on mine. I'd like to find 60 springs for both ends but they're like hens teeth to find cept maybe from the east coast.

From what I was reading there was about 2000 on each axle....I would have to say with the rack and everything this would be about close. 1/2 ton springs would be fine.

rwilley and I have been doing a little work on the cruiser, mainly trying to get it on four wheels. The 3-link coil spring conversion is scratched and we decided to go to longer leaf springs. I went searching around the junk yard for some leaf springs that were the same width as the Land Cruiser springs and then only ones I could find were from the rear springs of a 1987 Mitzubishi Pickup. Fortunately the springs were 4" longer than the stock FJ40 Springs. The FJ60 front axle is somewhere around 3" wider than the FJ40 axle. All of the same parts were used in making the FJ60 axle, only wider, but when they widened the FJ60 axle they made the "long-side" axle longer instead of lengthening both of them the same. With the land cruiser the front passanger side shackle is up the differential a little bit on the housing, and in order to use the FJ60 axle we had to make the spring hangers wider, so we could use the FJ60 spring perches. The FJ40 frame is about 28 3/4" in the front and the FJ60 is about 32 3/4". Hence, what we had been working on:

Front Hanger (the front shackles were reversed and moved to the back of the axle)

Front Leaf Springs (Two long springs are Rear 1987 Mitzubishi Pickup and rest are FJ40 Land cruiser)

The AA "Rock Box" is a little over $1,000.

1st gear is 3.56 and I just found that out today. I thought it was the 5.2. I'll still be 100 to 1 with 4.11 gears.

Here is the link to the Advance Adapters Web Site about the Rock Box:

It looks like they only make it to adapt to the SM420, SM465, and Toyota 4 Speed Transmission

well i picked up a shortblock 350 and 465 so in the future i will consider the rock box as i will have to buy an adapter and do the driveshafts either way to put the 350/465 combo in.sounds like a better deal then Marlins.so with a 465 tranny the ratio would get up ther pretty good
isnt 3:56-1about what is in mini trucks?
In looking at that web page, did you have to replace your output shaft on your tranny then?

I had to replace the output shaft in the toyota 4 speed. It all came with the box including the shifter boot and the oil.

BTW I bought it from Downey cause it was cheaper than AA.
