rwilley and I have been working on a nerf bar project lately. With the help of Sage's Son, we were able to get some tube bent and get this project underway. Attached Image: monthly_01_2009/post-311-1232260766.jpg

This is part of the plan, we are doing something similar to Tim's cruiser, and we are using his plans as a guideline.

Attached Image: monthly_01_2009/post-311-1232260800.jpg

This is just a classic fabrication picture, how many guys does it take to bend a piece of tube?

Attached Image: monthly_01_2009/post-311-1232260812.jpg

It is extremely easy to bend tube this way...

Attached Image: monthly_01_2009/post-311-1232260818.jpg

Here is a picture of the unfinished product. We have added some more parts to this since then, but this is kind of what it will look like. We are planning to weld this to the frame and have a piece connecting to the roll cage. It should provide additional stability to the nerf bar and the roll cage will be hooked to the frame in the front.

Ok so I finally got my turn with this thing! M&R have recruited my help in attempting to make the Holley Projection system work properly...They have picked my brain a few times about it and have told me of rich running conditions, huge fuel consumption, and some possible power issues...I was gonna communicate my findings privately with M & R but I figured it is part of the build and it belongs here! So far I have found that the idle speed is a touch high, the brake booster is bad (slight leak when not applied and large leak when applied), and the clutch release (through-out) bearing is scary loud! I also found that all of the mixture knobs were certainly on the rich side with the acceleration knob turned almost all of the way up, and when I adjust it to what I find appropriate it is all of the way down and should even go leaner! I also can not get the idle mixture lean enough...at this point I am thinking that the fuel pressure on the regulator may be set to high...I will be bringing a fuel pressure guage home tommorow along with a DVOM so I can get the idle lower and set the adjustment on the TPS...I will also have to plug the vaccum to the booster while doing these adjustments because a vaccum leak will lean it out, create a high idle and throw everything off...Also after doing a few minutes of research online I have found that this system is VERY touchy with elevation change without the "closed loop" kit which is just an oxygen sensor...This of course makes sense since the only sensors it reads without the "optional" kit are the coolant temp and throttle position plus wherever the knobs are set at for the circumstances for which they were set...the only other option to keep the system properly tuned for changes in conditions (especially elevation) is to adjust the knobs constantly...but overall I think I can make it all work right...now I need to talk M & R into obtaining a "closed loop" kit, if I might make a suggestion... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku ...anyway I will post up my findings as they come up and hopefully I wont have to follow this thing around everywhere it goes so I can adjust the knobs every few miles!

I did'nt know that the booster was leaking but thats an easy fix. I have another. I knew the rig was running rich cause I could see the smoke. Thats why you have it. The guy that adjusted the system had to put a new fuel pump on because the one that came with it was bad and he's the one that raised the presure from 15# to 25#. Just say the work and I'll get the part ordered. Aslo the paper work for the system is in the glove box.

M gave me the paperwork, and I have been through it MANY times already...and the pressure is at 25#! Holy Moly I didnt even know it would go that high...Everything I read says that it should be at about 18 in big block mode and down as low as 12 for a mild small block...oh well, I will get it figured out...And the kit that I linked to in my post IS the one that you need and as far as I found thats a pretty good price...if you order it today it MIGHT get here tommorow if it comes out of Sparks...

I had a 2bbl Pro-Jection system on my Wagoneer (4.2L) and it ran ok, but like you say HUGE fuel consumption (~12mpg or less). I never did the tech thing with the knobs, just adjusted it by ear.

I ended up selling that and putting a stock 2bbl carb on it. Ran better, but never got better than 12mpg with it.

Good luck with this! If you ever end up going with a GM TBI system, p'raps I can be of some help.

I cant tell you because my speedometer doesn't work properly, rwilley's doesn't work properly either. So that is a good question. Obviously it is going to be low because we spent some time up in the snow and in 4wd low.
