Doing a SAS is a bit of work. What year Ranger do you have? I'm guessing that price you quoted is for a set of new gears. But you're going to need to find a D44 that's drivers side drop being you have a ford. I don't think you can use the BII suspension beucase it has independant TTB as do the older rangers, so you wouldn't be gaining anything. SASs are usually custom jobs unless there's someout out there making coversions.
I helped MXracer do a SAS by building some custom long arms. He's installing a shock hoop and running coilovers.

i would use the 76 bII axle which is a d44, theres a whole right up on therangerstation.com, so if i buy the gearset, and a d44 case and the tubes then i have everything, the prices were pretty reasonble for all them. the vehicle that i was useing at the accu auto web site was a 76 bronco.

sounds good. I've searched for someone that makes a conversion kit, no one does. it's all custom. I've checked into pricing too, between $5-8K.
Good luck.

I dont know why the kits so expensive, about the only thing you need is a panhard bar and bracket plus a custom drag link.
I know a guy that stuck a dana44 out of a bronco in his nissan and he used all the brackets right off the bronco they unbolt and welded them to the nissan frame he said it was easy with a ranger you already have the coil stuff on there.

it was an early 90s pathfinder. I think the dana44 was out of a fullsize 70s bronco or truck.

You can do a Explorer D35 its a ttb but bolts right in. Gives you 3 more inches in width I have heard they are just as strong as the D44's. All I now is that my D28 broke just about every time I went out and the D35 hasn't given up yet
Purchased for $100 (we can leave it at that!)
Check out my poor mans Pullpal (it's in Prairie City pics and it worked)
