But thats coming from a guy trying to keep the squirrels from puking in his 4 banger (w00t)
As far as finding gears give Randy's Ring & Pinion a call, they are very helpful.

as far as offroad lighting goes. Lightforce is the best, but you guys dont have it in the US. If you could get those have a look at my 4x4 as it shows the setup i will be using. (the setup i am getting will light up the night sky!)
the other lights that arent bad are the Hella Rallye 4000. i have a couple of them hanging off the front of my GU (the other patrol) and they are pretty good saying i only have 2 of them)
now mile marker, if you arent going to use it in competition, it is bloody great!

Go online, harborfreight.com.
So why are you re-gearing only to go down 3 tenths of a ratio? Seems like a waste to me. It will probably increase your RPMs <200 on the freeway.

I guess it's a common thing many to be afraid to gear one's rigs lower than 5. Something about shear strength and a notion they'll be turning too many rpm down the freeway. I had this talk with Jer. You have to look at the tire/gear ratio chart that's pinned in general 4x4. I suggested Jer go 5.13s or even 5.38s being he wants 37-38 tires. With 38s and 5.38s he'll be turning OEM rpm down the hwy. I've been driving around my XJ with stock gearing, 3.55 on 35-36s for a while now and it can be done, but it should be a lot lower for the tire size. Yeah 5.13 will be better than 4.90, but the amount of performance gained will be very small. I may be blowing smoke out of my bottom being I've never driven a regeared 4x4, but on paper and this article seems to back up my reasoning. If the front axle I'm getting went as deep as my D70, I would seriously consider 6.17 because I want big tires behind a motor that isn't a serious powerhouse. However it has OD so I can still drive it down the freeway below 3000 rpm.

tire diameter = (MPH * gear ratio *336) / RMP
in my case
tire diameter = (70 * 4.3* 336) / 3000 = 33.71"
that is what i have now, more than enough power off the line and i can do up to 80 miles an hour without a problem. but also when in 4 low i can still crawl at very low speeds (idle)
now replace the 4.3 ratios with 4.6
(70 * 4.6 * 336) / 3000 = 36.064" so i can run a 36" tire with 4.6 gears and still do 70 MPH at 3000 rpm. which is just perfect.
now i take your point Eric if you want to make your vehicle more powerful and have a slower clawl/engine braking (than the stock standard car) then yes you are rignt, but mine is just right now with 4.3's and 33" tires
also accorfing to the chart that is pinned in general 4x4, at 65MPH i do about 2900RPM so i should be between 4.56 and 4.88. so again the 4.6 is fine for 35's
