I own a 1988 ford f-150 4X4 long box, regular cab, 5 speed over drive. the only problem is it is a 4.9 litre 6 cylinder. i have had it out 4 wheelin and it did very well but ive had people tell me i should take out the 6 and put in a 5.0 litre 302. i only want to put about 33 inch tires on it and maybe a small lift, What should i do?

I say wheel what you got, the inline six is a fine motor, and more durable than just about any V8 out there, just regear your axles and you will have no problems with those 33s you want.

Welcome nick_m. I vote for if you like it the way it is than run it that way. You should have no problems running 33s with a little lift. Good luck.

I ran the straight six in my landcruiser for years till it gave out, dunno bout the ford's six but that LC six has torque to spare.

and from what i remeber from an old tv show they have they highest tourqe out put of any I6 N/A (naturaly aspirated no forced induction) and if he has the bourge warner tranny it should have between 260-around 310 ft torque

First... run it till you feel you need more of blow it up.

Then go to atleast the 351. If I was doing the swap I would go ahead and do the 454 though. I loved my 351W. I stuffed one into a Chevy!! (w00t)
Useless text that your reading for at least the first time.

I was :read: that the 3 engine options that my rig came with is the 300 6 cylinder, 302, and 351 and they stated the best engine was the 302

The 302 and the 351 are very similar engines. The 351 has a taller deck height to get the extra cubes.

For what you want to do I would stick with the inline 6. All of those JEEP guys telling you to put in a V8, they would not pull out there 6 for a 8.
